Informed consent is the process in which a health care provider educates a patient about the risks, benefits, and alternatives of a given procedure or intervention. The patient must be competent to make a voluntary decision about whether to undergo the procedure or intervention.
A first-in-class drug refers to a pharmaceutical that utilizes a "new and unique mechanism of action" to treat a specific medical condition. These drugs represent novel approaches to addressing diseases and often provide innovative treatment options. They may introduce a completely new therapeutic approach or target previously unexplored pathways.
